I am writing this letter of referral for Primal Fitness. Michael James is the founder of this
organization and is seasoned leader in the health and fitness industry.
Primal are constantly striving to further education and solutions for themselves and their clients,
with their major focus being quality of life.
Primal are a well-established business with a successful reputation and have developed global
relationships with many of the leaders of the industry including;
§ IOM (Institute of Motion), World leaders in human design and coaching,
§ Dr Roy Sugarman, director of Applied Science for EXOS
§ OD on Movement, Movement Solutions and Performance conditioning.
This has enabled them to develop movement strategies that are geared towards longevity
through improved function and mobility and have dedicated themselves to many groups;
especially the aging population.
Primal’s unique strategies have enhanced proprioception (fall prevention), bone density, lean
muscle mass, circulation and hormone profiles in this group. Continual studies through their
relationship with Dr Roy Sugarman have also recorded benefits to brain health (cognition and
psycology) for many of their clients.
I would recommend Primal to any person or organization looking to optimize their health and
wellbeing outcomes and quality of life.
Director of OD on Movement
“It’s just old age” is rarely an excuse I’m willing to accept as a practitioner. Especially because I know that everyone can benefit from specialised care and enjoy an improved quality of life. As a Chiropractor I see clients for injuries recovery, management and prevention. Supervised exercise is an essential part of each approach. And the gold standard supervised exercise is with Michael James and his team at Primal Fitness. Clients get individualised attention with state of the art equipment with trainers who are educated on the very latest in exercise science. As a practitioner I know that I will be included in the team approach for the best care and results of each client. I highly recommend both practitioners and clients establish a relationship with Primal Fitness for the management of seniors who desire to live an active, quality life.”
As neuroscientists we are aware of the cumulative risks of sedentary behaviour on our ageing population: the rot starts early. Serial research has demonstrated that little physical ageing takes place until well after sixty, and in those who are physically active, and remain so across the lifespan, not only lifespan is enhanced, but ‘health span’, namely the number of years spent without chronic illness, is vastly facilitated. Complex movements carried out by the hardware of muscle systems require constant wiring of the brain software required to execute these movements, as learning takes place to scaffold complex movement by strengthening brain pathways, or creating new ones. Complex movement such as Tai Chi, Jungshin, TaiKwanDo etc. has been shown to reduce robust defences against dementia in the elderly, even when diet and other features are controlled for. I have observed Michael James and his colleagues at Primal Fitness developing high level skills and resultant programs in complex movement, and applying this in their studio, attracting more elderly but informed clients such as myself over the years, helping maintain my flexibility, mobility, stability and strength in the face of my advancing years and challenging international lifestyle. With their novel approach to 3-dimensional movement and resistance training, and in contrast to my age-peers at other gyms, I have benefited enormously and maintained my shape and vitality across the last decade. The same feedback is received from my family and many patients referred to Michael and the Team. He and his team are highly recommended, and are highly differentiated from other competitors.
I met the team at Primal 5 years ago. My preconceived idea of trainers was boofheads with big muscles lifting big weights. I was blown away by the detail they went through in terms of getting people to move well with respect to mobility, agility and strength. I began to train with primal and felt a lot better quickly. It was little things like reaching for something or playing with my kids. It improved my mood because I just felt better in my body. I loved the friendly environment and they included a lot of fun rather than the traditional old school approach. Being a Physio I loved the fact it was based on science and evidence. Physio is important for teaching people basic motor patterns however the next progression is to see Primal to learn to move well again. I highly recommend Primal for their evidence based and safe approach but also because of the welcoming community they have created.
Excellent trainers – a really personal service and you feel fit without getting crippled! Love this place!!
When I had my daughter I experienced my greatest ever weight loss in one day!..But I found the last 4 – 5 kilos difficult to shift. Michael and his colleagues at Primal Fitness have focused on the full picture in helping me lose this weight – they’ve recommended changes to my diet and have also designed a great program. I’m now within a couple of kilos of my pre-baby weight, and she was only born 6 months ago! I’d highly recommend PHS to anyone looking to get back into shape after having a baby.
Unfortunately, during my pregnancy some bad eating habits had crept in and I gained some extra kilos, 25kg in fact! It would not have been possible for me to shed those kgs and get the body back to normal on my own. Michael helped me re-establish a healthy disciplined approach to food and exercise to get back to my previous fitness and strength levels. I now feel fit and strong and have all the energy I need to manage a full time career and run around after a toddler.
I am now 53 and fitter than I have been since I was 20, and stronger than I have ever been. My trouser size was heading towards 36 but lately I have been fitting into size 32. My weight has come down from 86kg to around 80kg and I know I don’t get colds, or flu or other illness to the extent I did in the past. Working with Mike and following his methods and advice over the years has been fantastic for my life and wellbeing.
It felt good to ‘outsource’ control of my fitness to a professional to motivate and help me (whilst I filled in my day with my new baby!). I had tried a number of ‘new mothers’ group exercise classes after the birth but can safely say I have achieved more in the first 2 months with PHS than I did in 6 months with others.
His methods give you a reason and an incentive to train and a passionate desire to improve all aspects of your personal fitness – both physically and your mental approach. The methods have given me great knowledge and confidence to be able to do the right things for my body when I’m travelling.
Their focus on functional movement means I have a great mix of strength, flexibility and endurance training. I think it is an extremely balanced programme, and is one that educates and motivates me to keep going and commit to it as part of my lifestyle, not just as a 2 hour part of my week. Progress for me is evidenced by a drop in about 15 kilos of weight, a 4-5% drop in body fat and decrease in blood pressure.
